Today seems a good time to remind all about your anti virus software. If you don't have an anti virus program Get one, keep it updated and USE IT. An anti virus program is only as good as the user/operator. Installing an anti virus program 6 months ago isn't going to do you a whole lot of good if its simply installed and not running. Keeping a good anti virus program running on a continuous run basis is all well and good but if you don't update it regularly it's not going to help protect you against new items. It is a good idea to get yourself in the habit of not only keeping an updated antivirus program running all the time while you work, especially while doing email and web related tasks to on demand scan incoming email and attachments. But it is even better to schedule a routine update and then Complete system scan. Most anti virus programs default install to Only scan "program files" once installed you should go in and check your options/settings/preferences to be sure your program is set to scan "ALL FILES" And "including Compressed files" Most good anti virus products update their virus patterns at least once a week or every 7 - 10 days others update on daily basis. Updating your program once a week to catch the newest items and immediately when there are outbreaks will only take a few moments of your time to keep your system safe as its run on a regular basis and a complete system scan once a month will help to verify nothing is sitting waiting to trigger at a later date. Once a month is a decent time frame for the average user to do a Complete scan. However it is an even better idea to do it once a week if you have the time right after you update your software. There are several excellent programs out there. I prefer PCTools myself, but I do not endorse or sell any particular program.
Each weekday we will publish a family friendly tip.
