I finally got pregnant after 6 years of trying, the natural way, no drugs!! I read every book and lived by T. Berry Brazelton’s word!
Finally, Jan. 13 I was going to be induced, due to high blood pressure and the baby’s estimated weight was 8 lbs. 10 oz. I arrived at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. and was prepared, with the enema yuk!! Then Dr. Greenberg arrived and inserted the jelly onto my cervix.
Well by about 12:00 p.m. nothing was happening, so he decided to hook me up to the pit drip, what fun!! Well, after a few hours he expected me to be in huffing puffing labor, but I was only having very mild contractions. This went on through the afternoon and evening and I still wasn’t in full labor, and still only about 3 centimeters dilated. Dr. Greenberg decided to stop the drip so that I could rest overnight and he would restart my drip the next morning. Next morning he came in restarted my drip and still only mild contractions, so he decided to double bag me, double drip!!! YIKES!!!! Boy did that get them going!!! I was in full force labor!!!!!
Much to my surprise when Dr. Greenberg came into see how far I was dilated much to his surprise the baby was coming down the birth canal face up! So not only did I have contractions from hell that wouldn’t let up, they came back to back, Dr. Greenberg was trying to turn the baby in between contractions. After rolling me from side to side and twisting and turning the baby, and pushing from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every blood vessel in my face, neck and chest had burst, he decided on a section. I truly thought I was dying!!
Dr. Greenberg also was not sure about my condition, because at one point he had talked about flying me out, but there was no time. I was prepped for surgery 10 cm dilated mind you, of course to go to surgery I had to be catheterized I was so swollen inside they were frightened of nicking my bladder!! All I could say was, please god don’t let me die. Finally, they got me prepped and I was ready for surgery, shortly after they wheeled me into or they brought my husband in, who by the way was a trooper, helping me through every contraction, running for cold towels, etc.
Finally, we heard a cry my husband jumped up and Dr. Greenberg said, “It’s a girl!” I tried lifting my head, all I could see was a glimpse of her head, and I asked if she was okay!! She was absolutely perfect at 8 lbs. 9.5 0z. 22 in. long!! McKenzie Lakyn born 8:45 1/14/97 This was not the way I had hoped she would come into the world, but after trying for 6 years I was going to take her any way I could get her.
